Explore the landmarks and museums of Montevideo on this walking tour through Ciudad Vieja.

The tour begins with a short transfer to Plaza Independencia, where your guided walk will start. Here, you’ll see the former Presidential Palace and the Palacio Salvo, as well as the monument dedicated to Uruguay’s national hero, José Artigas.

Next, visit the Solís Theatre, dating back to 1842 and recently restored to its former glory. This magnificent building is the heart of Montevideo’s artistic activities.

In Plaza Constitución, stroll through the flea market stalls and admire the well-preserved buildings from the Spanish colonial period, such as the Cabildo. Afterward, visit the Montevideo Cathedral.

Continue to Plaza Zabala, the only walled square in the city, where you’ll find the monument to the founder of Montevideo, Bruno Mauricio de Zabala.

While enjoying the tour, treat yourself to traditional Uruguayan street foods such as “choripán,” classic empanadas, and the delicious chocolate-covered alfajor filled with dulce de leche.
